	EARTHRIDE	Taming the demons	!PURE MARYLAND DOOM FOR THE BROTHERHOOD OF MUSIC! Earthride are a another incredible band from the Doom Capitol / Maryland, the fertile breeding ground that has spawned: Hidden Hand, Pentagram, Internal Void, Wretched, Iron Man, Unorthodox, and Spirit Caravan. In fact, theres connections to some of these bands, drummer Eric Little was in Internal Void, and singer Dave Sherman was in Wretched and also played bass in Spirit Caravan(along with sharing vocal duties with Wino). The Earthride sound is a brutal combination of Sherms' whiskey burned, Lemmy's esque vokill strain wrecked into a punishing mountain of doom. One listen to the mammoth wall of guitar that Kyle Van Steinburg blankets over the concrete rhythm section and its obvious that Earthride holds their own. The band played many shows in support of this album including opening for High On Fire, Superjoint Ritual, Nebula, Clutch, Pentagram, Earth, sunn0))), Mastodon... Southern Lord released the debut from Earthride: Taming of the Demons in May 2002 as CD version only. This album was re-released by Doomentia Records as vinyl version for the first time ever. 	FROM ASHES RISE	Nightmares	From Ashes Rise takes the traditional hardcore sounds of Amebix, Discharge and early Swedish hardcore and mixes them with the Tennessee Sound and influences from the more melodic side of Death Metal. The result is the one of the most crushing assaults in hardcore today but amidst the walls of sheer power is an underlying melody and song structure that sets this band apart from dozens of other power riff merchants. The flawless production on this record bring out a depth and structure to the music that I think is hard to capture at a live show. There is a certain atmosphere to this record that brings to mind standing at the edge of a murky abyss. 	FROM ASHES RISE / VICTIMS	split	From Ashes Rise plays dark, slightly metallic hardcore that is not unlike early His Hero Is Gone mixed with Scandinavian hardcore like Skitystem and 80's UK crust like Antisect. Drawing on those influences From Ashes Rise has moved this sound into it's own territory so to simply label it "Tennessee style" hardcore would be oversimplifying their sonic progression. Victims from Sweden play aggressive fast Scandinavian hardcore not unlike early Skitsystem or Wolfbrigade. You can hear the influence of early Swedish hardcore like Anti-Cimex, Shitlickers and Crude SS mixed with the heavier sounds of 90's crust core, but there is also some influence from the early 80's US hardcore sound. Kaaos were one of the foremost Finnish hardcore bands of the 80s along with Rattus, Terveet Kadet, Appendix, Bastards and Riistetyt.
